Espirita is thrilled to announce that we have partnered with a leading Private Optical provider in London to recruit an experienced Ophthalmic Nurse for their Admissions and Theatres (Scrub) units.

What will you be doing in this role? 
We are seeking a dedicated Ophthalmic Nurse who can fulfil the following responsibilities: 


  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, evaluating patients’ medical history, current health status, and readiness for surgery.
  • Provide clear instructions and information to patients regarding their upcoming procedures and what to expect.
  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments for patients scheduled for ophthalmic procedures.
  • Ensure clinical risks are managed in line with our clinical procedures
  • Provide clear and comprehensive information to patients and their families regarding surgical procedures and post-operative care. 
  • Administer relevant medications and ensure patients have clear understanding of medications and how to administer them after surgery.
  • Coordinate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a smooth patient journey from admission to discharge.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations and NMC Code of Practice.
  • Ensure admissions infection, prevention and control practices are maintained; equipment and areas are always of the appropriate standard.
  • Ensure the organisation is compliant with medicines management regulations and internal policies related to practice in admissions.

Theatres (Scrub): Assist Theatre Lead and Surgeons: 

  • Support the theatre lead and ophthalmic surgeons in delivering outstanding care to all patients, ensuring seamless operations and a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to maintain a high standard of clinical practice.

Scrub Assistance During Procedures: Provide expert scrub assistance during a range of ophthalmic surgeries, including:

  • Cataract Surgery: Assist with the preparation and handling of instruments and implants.
  • Corneal Crosslinking (CXL): Support the surgical team with specialized equipment and patient positioning. 
  • Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE): Manage instruments and materials specific to refractive lens procedures.
  • Glaucoma Surgery: Assist in the delicate handling of instruments and sutures.
  • Vitreoretinal (VR) Surgery: Facilitate the use of microsurgical tools and ensure sterile field maintenance.
  • Oculoplastics: Aid in procedures involving the eyelids and orbit. JD – CEO V1
  • Minor Operations and Laser Treatments: assistance for minor surgical procedures and laser interventions, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

What are the requirements for this role? 

  • You must be a registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.
  • You must have a minimum of 2 years previous experience in ophthalmic nursing, with a focus on admissions and or theatre/scrub role.
  • Current CV with gaps of one months or more in duration explained.


What is the benefit package on offer for this position? 
This role comes with a fantastic benefits package, which includes: 

  • Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 awarded on experience.
  • Location: Central London.
  • Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (usually 8am – 5pm).

  • Holidays: 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays).
