This facility is recognized nationally as a leader in both adult and pediatric trauma care and is designated as a Level 4 trauma center with 152 licensed beds. As a Neonatal ICU Nurse, you will work in a fast-paced, specialized environment where your expertise in neonatal care will make a profound difference in the lives of critically ill infants. This role requires a compassionate, skilled, and dynamic nurse who can manage complex patient care needs, demonstrate clinical excellence, and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for neonatal patients and their families. 

Salary range & hours: $39.21 to $45.45 per hour, dependent on experience. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assess and Monitor Neonatal Patients: 
    Regularly evaluate and monitor the health status of neonates, including vital signs, respiratory function, and neurological condition. Detect and report any changes or abnormalities to the healthcare team immediately. 

 

  • Administer Medications and Treatments: 
    Administer prescribed medications, fluids, and treatments with precision, ensuring proper dosages and safe administration for neonates. Monitor the effects of these treatments and adjust as needed. 

 

 

  • Provide Respiratory and Life-Saving Support: 
    Manage respiratory support for neonates, including oxygen therapy, ventilator management, and neonatal resuscitation as necessary. Respond quickly to life-threatening situations and perform emergency interventions when required. 

 

  • Assist in Procedures and Surgeries: 
    Provide nursing care during neonatal procedures and surgeries, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative support. Assist with intubation, resuscitation, and other critical procedures. 

 

 

  • Collaborate with Healthcare Team: 
    Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other specialists to develop and implement personalized care plans for neonates. Participate in daily rounds and contribute to treatment decisions. 

 

  • Support and Educate Families: 
    Offer emotional support and education to families regarding their newborn’s condition, treatments, and care requirements. Provide guidance on how to care for their child both in the NICU and post-discharge. 

 

 

  • Document Care and Progress: 
    Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records, documenting all care provided, including assessments, medications, interventions, and changes in condition. Ensure clear communication among the care team through thorough documentation. 

 

  • Manage Medical Equipment: 
    Operate and maintain specialized NICU equipment, such as incubators, ventilators, and monitoring devices. Ensure proper functioning and report any equipment issues to the appropriate staff for resolution. 

 

 

  • Support Discharge Planning and Follow-Up Care: 
    Ensure a smooth transition for neonates being discharged by providing detailed post-care instructions to parents. Monitor neonates during follow-up visits and adjust care as needed to promote optimal outcomes. 

 

  • Adhere to Infection Control Protocols: 
    Follow strict infection control measures, including proper hand hygiene, use of PPE, and sterilization techniques, to reduce the risk of infections in vulnerable neonates. 

 

 

  • Promote Developmental and Comforting Care: 
    Provide care that fosters the infant’s developmental needs, including developmental positioning and comfort measures. Assist with pain management and ensure a nurturing environment for neonatal patients. 

 

  • Commit to Professional Development: 
    Engage in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices, new technologies, and evidence-based guidelines in neonatal care. Participate in unit-based educational activities and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Adult Nursing (BSN) 
  • NCLEX-RN Passer (or in progress) 
  • Alaska RN License (or willing to obtain) 
  • English Proficiency Examination (if required) 
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS/PALS or additional certification 
  • 24 months recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting 
  • Ability/willingness to relocate for a minimum of 3 years
