The National Council Licensure Examination, often referred to as NCLEX, is a licensure exam for nurses wanting to work in the United States. The test is computerised and must be taken in-person at one of Pearson VUE’s testing centres.

Luckily, international nurses seeking licensure don’t have to travel to the United States for the NCLEX. If you live outside of the USA, you can book a test at one of the international locations operated by Peason VUE.

How can I take the NCLEX in my country?

If you’re looking to take the NCLEX in your country residence, so where you live, you’ll have to follow these steps:

Find your nearest testing centre: Search our list above or visit the NCLEX website to find a testing centre in your country. If Pearson VUE currently operates no testing locations in the country you live, you’ll have to travel abroad to the nearest location.

Apply to a nursing board: You typically apply to the nursing board of the state you plan to live and work in. You’ll need to verify your credentials to apply. Learn more on our US licensure page.

Register with Pearson VUE: Once registered, you’ll pay a $200 exam fee.

Get an Authorization to Test (ATT): After the exam fee is paid, you’ll soon receive your ATT from your chosen nursing board.

Book your exam online or over the phone: With the ATT, you have 90 days to book your exam at an international testing centre.

Take test in person: You’ll take the NCLEX-RN on a computer and receive your results within six weeks.

Where is my nearest NCLEX testing centre?

Pearson VUE operates testing centres for the NCLEX across all continents: Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania (excluding Antartica).

Your nearest location may be in your country of residence or in a neighbouring country. If you decide to book your exam in another country, e.g. because travel is easier or shorter than to a national location, make sure to check entry requirements and apply for a visa or travel permit if needed.

Unfortunately, the NCLEX-RN can only be taken in person. There are no options for remote exams, so consider if the nearest location is also the easiest to access for you.
